A popular phrase today is FOMO, the “Fear Of Missing Out.” This is especially true in this fast-moving age when you don’t want to lose out on riding the wave of the next big tech stock or crypto currency explosion or not be first on having or doing the latest tech.
Jesus met a young man that had everything - position, power, and money - but when asked if he would give it all up to follow Christ he declined because he was afraid to “Miss Out” on all the great stuff he was enjoying in his life - and many in our modern-day world are no different.
For many of us, especially those living in first-world societies the convenience and luxury of life IS indeed appealing. Elegant homes, luxurious cars, fine clothes and high-profile lifestyles - as nice as they are - are a powerful draw away from the long-term view of the distinction between mortal life and immortal life. Like the 'Rich Young Ruler' in today’s scripture verse, the allure of life in the Here-And-Now can easily deceive and overshadow the true riches in the life to come in the Here-After.
EVERYTHING in this life will eventually pass away. All will grow old, all will lose their beauty, strength money, position and possessions and die. One day everything you owned and thought was important will be owned by someone else, but the most valuable thing you possess - Your SOUL - will continue on. Where your soul goes depends on whether you are on a HAPPINESS TREK in the 'Here' or a PILGRIMAGE TREK to the 'After'.
Friend, What are you most concerned of 'Missing Out' On? Jesus put it this way:
“For where your treasure is,
there will your heart be also.”
Matthew 6:21
Whatever that treasure is...
is what will determine your eternity.
God Bless Your Day
