When people speak the truth in a hostile world there can be a price to pay. In today’s scripture excerpt, Stephen,  “…a man full of faith”  (Acts 6:5) was selected by the growing church in Jerusalem to speak out against the popular religious and political leaders in authority. Despite his detailed, impassioned, articulate and truthful exposition of God’s Word, as today’s verse sadly records, they closed their minds or hearts to the truth of God’s Word and instead responded by attacking him with angry screams and publicly killing him in front of the city. Stephen was the first Christian  MARTYR , but this word is not defined just by someone subjected to criticism, persecution, or even death. In the original language 'martyr' means 'to be a legal witness to something or someone that is true.' Interestingly enough the end result of martyrdom - just as with Stephen and the early church - instead was to greatly MULTIPLY the truth of the Gospel and cause the eventual world-wi...

The Difference Between Not Doing -vs- Not WANTING

Ask most people and they would agree to believe that: Most people are good, not bad Good usually triumphs over evil Murder is wrong While perhaps there are many other things that we can agree on, one difficult event for most people to believe in or accept is that Jesus Christ conquered death and rose from the grave — and this is where Jesus’ question in today’s verse in John chapter eleven is a point of contention and controversy. In fact, the entire New Testament hangs on this fact, that if Christ did NOT rise from the dead, then the entire message of the Gospel — redemption from sin and death, and eternal life — are a silly and senseless point. In fact the Apostle Paul said this precisely in 1 Corinthians 15:19 that  “If in this life only we have hope in Christ,  we are of all men most miserable.”  Or to put it another way, the entire Christian life is meaningless and futile unless what Christ did on the cross and conquering death in resurrection was FACT instead...

The only letter that differentiates the words WORD and WORLD is the letter   “L” , so the question is what does the   “L”   stand for? And the answer is   LIE. When God spoke and  “The Universe Was Created by the WORD of God”  (Hebrews 11:3) it was perfect and without error or evi L . While God’s nature is TRUTH, and  “No lie is of the truth”  (1 John 2:21) Satan’s nature is the opposite of truth and  “The Father Of Lies.”  (John 8:44) When creation fell in the Garden of Eden, the  “L”  was added to God’s Word and the WORD became  WOR L D . While God designed us to  L ive, Satan seeks to reverse God’s good  BACKWARDS  and transforms it to  E vil . To live in the pleasures of the world without regard for your maker or eternity is to  live life backwards  and to  live in evil. Friend, if you are caught up in the ways of the world -  “the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and...

When reading the entire passage of today’s scripture of the “The Parable of the Talents” God is The Master portrayed as a businessman who delegates instructions to his stewards promising rewards in proportion to their faithfulness and productivity, but also giving a stern warning of punishment for those that ignore his instructions. The master would not have entrusted his possessions to the stewards if he didn’t trust them, which follows suit that God gives people an opportunity to partner with them and receive a reward for those that are faithful. A major lesson in this allegory is that 'The 'Master' WILL RETURN and when he does for those that are faithful he will say, “Well done thou good and faithful servant. Because you were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things.” Like those servants, God sees us as partners in his enterprise to do his will, but as the third servant did nothing, even insulting the master as being selfish and greedy, his ...

Before you make a judgement by looking solely at the title of this message and the related picture, let’s get one thing clear. You really need to read the entire message, because this isn’t about some people automatically being good and others automatically being bad. The fact is that ALL OF US are sinners, and it is how we  RESPOND  - and subsequently  REPENT  - of our sin that determines our standing with God. While God  DOES   'Love Everyone' this doesn’t mean we all automatically have a relationship with God or are automatically accepted into His Kingdom. Why? Because  God Is HOLY , and He can only have a truly intimate relationship with those that are also holy before him. As today’s verse says, God is no respecter of persons. That means that once you step out of your mortal body and cross the vail to the other side and are a pure soul before His throne, who you  THINK  you are, what  ACCOMPLISHMENTS  you’ve done, how mu...

There’s an old saying that 'There Are No Atheists In Foxholes' - but there are two other places where there are also no atheists: ● In Heaven    -and- ● In Hell For some reading this, this declaration might be laughable – and maybe offensive, and if that’s how you feel, let’s be clear: While in “The HERE” you Have Every Right To Believe (or not believe) ANYTHING You Want, however in “The Hereafter” the recognition to Christ of 1 John 3:11 will either be said with GREAT JOY or GREAT REGRET. Friend, in the Hereafter, what experience do you believe you will have?  All of us at our lowest moments have shed deep heartfelt tears, but did you know that God not only felt those tears but deems them as so precious that they are written in a book? Yes! God sees you crying tears of sorrow, and David wrote in Psalm 56:8 “ Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?” Indeed, God cares so much about our lives and our sufferings that he makes special note of them and feels your heart ache with you. Nothing goes unnoticed when watching over His children. Matthew 10:29 even says that not one sparrow falls to the ground without His notice, so think how much more He cares for you. No matter how much anguish you experience, not one moment has escaped God’s attention over you. His fatherly compassion causes Him to draw near to the brokenhearted, just as Jesus did when He felt such great sorrow and compassion with Mary over the death of her brother, Lazarus. Jesus was known as a man of sorrows, so we must remember ...

We see these signs all the time; “Jesus Saves” But Saves What?!? Is Jesus saving money at Costco? Helping to save the planet? Only buying things on sale? So what exactly is he 'saving?' Admittedly, at face value, this terse message without any context makes no sense whatsoever. In fact for most people it would appear silly and perhaps even laughable and easily passed off as forgettable and nonsensical. If that’s how you feel about it, I totally get. Without any context whatsoever it doesn’t make any sense. However, this is where Satan’s word to Eve in the Garden of Eden becomes vitally important. You see, if you’re like a lot of people, death and dying are not on your mind, and I’d be willing to say that for today that’s 100% true. In that sense, many reading this are no different than a study made in a class of kindergarteners who were asked if they were going to die... and none of them raised their hands! The first lie in history was that “Ye shall not surely die.” when in fa...
